Baby is about 6 years old and belongs to my 88 year old aunt who lives with us but is no longer able to give her the proper attention that she needs and deserves.
She comes from a very loving home but as everyone in the house works full time, we don't have the extra time to help my aunt clean the cage everyday and take her out to play. She's very loving but does take a little bit of time to get used to new people picking her up. She loves to be held and spend time walking around the enclosed porch area.... (read more) She's talkative (as cockatoos go) and commonly says phrases like, "pretty baby", "morning baby", "goodnight baby". She loves her toys, even simple ones like whiffle balls or stuffed animals.
Baby needs a home where she will receive a ton of attention. Someone whose experienced with cockatoos would be the best placement. Cockatoos have a tendency to "scream" when they want something like attention or more food. If you're not understanding of cockatoo behavior, you may end up frustrated which is not what you or Baby needs. Right now, her large cage is set up in the kitchen while it's cold/chilly out. In the summertime, we put her cage on the back enclosed deck so she can get some fresh air. Please understand, that cockatoos can be very loud, and if you have very close neighbors it may not be the best situation. She should not go to an apartment home for the same reason. At bedtime, she likes to have complete darkness to fall asleep to. She's pretty picky about her food and has never seemed to like to eat much else. You'll need to occasionally bath her to keep the cockatoo's "white dust" down.
She would do wonderfully with a family with a sfh that has ample time to let her roam outside of her cage. She's ready to go today with her large black cage (the one in the picture), toys, and bag of food (whatever is left when she finds a home).
