This is my baby Happy.
Through absolutely no fault of his own he needs to be in a new home environment.
He is an unsexed Quaker, but we have always referred to him as a he so I will do so for the purposes of this post.... (read more)
I have had him since he was about 8 weeks old, and he's been such a good boy. The problem i'm having is that the active he yells at literally causes my fiance pain. That is the ONLY reason he can't stay.
He is used to spending very little time in his cage. We allow freeflight, and he has done well with potty training but still has accidents.
He steps up very well, and usually will recall if you hold out your arm and call for him.
He is a very vocal bird. He likes to make his presence known for sure!
His ability to learn speech is really good. Right now he has several phrases that he uses.
*kiss noises*
"Kisses" (actually gives kisses)
"MUAH"
"Thank you baby"
"Happy is a good boy"
"Good boy baby"
"Khufu!" (That's my dog's name)
*shhh* ( It sort of sounds like a hiss, but he is shushing you)
"Well hi there"
"Ahhh"
"Love" (trying to teach him to say love you)
When the dog bark he imitates it.
When my toddler's screams he screams with them.
I think there are a couple of others come up but they are slipping my mind.
He is used to being around small children and dogs. The dogs are trained not to interact with him so I don't know how he would actually interact with a dog. The small children are not allowed to hold him for his safety, but he has no issues landing on their heads.
He is not aggressive out of his cage, and has only ever bit me once. If you put your fingers through his cage though he might nip.
He does like going on rides and going to stores (secure in his carrier ONLY).
His favorite place to be is sitting on someone. He's not real picky about where usually though he does love to play a long hair of course.
He dances and bobs if you are playing music.
When he gets super happy he gets all fluffy like a baby bird and starts bobbing.
In general he is a pretty happy bird. Hence why are we named him Happy. (Well that and he reminded my kids of the winked cat from the anime Fairytail by the same name)
NOT FREE. There is a fee for his rehoming. These are not cheap pets and he comes with a lot. The fee is absolutely negotiable for the right home
Items he will come with:
his cage (61" high with wheeled stand, 34" high without stand, 31" wide, 18" deep)
Stainless steel food and water dishes
Gravity water holder
Whatever toys he hasn't destroyed, including a busy bird spinner toy (all safe using stainless steel carabiners to hold)
backpack style travel carrier
additional natural perches for his cage
whatever vet tape we have left over
Brand new wire cage brushes
whatever ZuPreem we have left, whatever cheap meijer brand food we have left (used for treat purposes)
Whatever shelf stable products that we have left over for his chop (There's quite a bit there)
He does well with other birds his size, but has not been caged with any other birds since he was about four months old. He has not been around significantly smaller or larger birds.
I have only ever used vinegar and water and natural sunlight to clean his cage and accessories. I've never used any chemicals.
Honestly rehoming him is going to break my heart.
Everyone in our family absolutely loves him with the exception of my fiance, and that's only because again he's pain every time Happy screeches.
I am going to be very picky about where he goes. This bird is pretty near and dear to our hearts.
I only want him to go to someone who has experience with birds currently.
He needs to be in a home where someone is willing to make a commitment to him for the rest of his life. Quaker parrots can live twenty to thirty years as pets. If you're not prepared for that kind of commitment this isn't your bird.
