Breeding pair of rose breasted cockatoos (Galahs)
Laid December 2023, January 2024, and started laying again April 2024.
I purchased these birds from a breeder last year. They were not in very good shape. They were taken to the vet; the male had to be treated for an eye infection and feather loss. (Not pluckers, just loss due to being fed a poor diet). The female was nutrient deficient as well. She did lay 7 eggs, 1/2 were fertile.... (read more) However, some were soft shelled due to the nutrient deficiency. I have spent the last year getting these birds off of a seed diet and onto a pellet and fresh food diet. I have also added mineral supplements to their water to ensure they are not deficient. They are finally fully on pellets, though I throw in a few seeds for them to forage for. They are both an excellent weight.
I have invested a lot of time and energy into saving these beautiful creatures and I believe they can continue producing now that they are healthy and happy.
The male, named Carl, is fairly tame. He picks and chooses when he wants to be nice and is very protective of his lady. The female, is very wild, but she loves Carl and they make a good pair. Carl is very attentive of her, feeds her and preens her. She is the alpha and doesn’t take any crap from him, though he’s a sweetheart and usually doesn’t give her any crap like many male cockatoos do.
They are in an outdoor cage as they were both vitamin D deficient, but they love being outside, especially when it rains. They also like their privacy, and you can often hear them talking sweet to each other.
Carl had the most vibrant pink color I’ve ever seen. The female is also a beautiful, soft pink. They are beautifully feathered.
Female is 12 years old and the male is 8. Excellent breeding ages and can produce for many years to come. Would also make great aviary birds.
Serious inquiries only. I don’t want to sell them. However, I don’t have enough time for everything I have going on and I’m making cut backs. Unfortunately for these guys, they didn’t make the cut. I am in no rush, and will ensure they go to a proper home.
