Approximately ten year old Military macaw with cage, large playstand, and small stand. Friendly, but uncomfortable with strangers. My wife and I have had him for about seven and a half years. I (husband) am his primary person, yet he prefers my wife. I can't say if it is that he prefers women, but there is definitely a difference in the way he acts with me as opposed to my wife. He is very snuggly with her, yet he can be tempermental with me.... (read more) My wife has her own business, and we started a local business about three years ago. We have done all we can to adjust our schedules so he get more attention, but we feel it's just not enough. We want him to be in a home where he is with people more that without, as he is with us. We also want him in a home with people who are familiar with Macaws. This is not a bird for a first time bird owner. As mentioned, he can be tempermental. He has never bitten anyone but me, but he has had his moments (another reason we believe he prefers women). We are in no rush to rehome him. If you are interested we would like to know about your experience with Macaws, your lifestyle relative to him getting the attention he deserves, and addressing the fact that he can live seventy five years, and he is only ten. It already breaks my heart that he will be going to his third home already. We would like to know that he will be there for a longer period of time, understanding that it is likely he will outlive whoever he goes to. We would like the person(s) to whom he goes to come to meet him, spend time, perhaps more than once We would like him to go with his own stands and cage. It is going to be a hard enough transition for him, and I would like him to have his things. We are not willing to ship him, nor have him go to a breeder.
Thank you.
