The Black-capped Conure, also known as the Black-capped parakeet or Rock Conure, is a small species within the genus Pyrrhura. It is mostly green, with a dusky brown crown. The central feathers of the breast are also dusky, but the tips of these feathers are pale yellowish-tan or whitish, forming a scaled pattern. The leading edge of the wing is red, and the upper surface of the tail is green.... (read more) Juveniles have similar coloration, just duller. Black-capped Conures are native to the south-western Amazon Basin and adjacent east Andean slopes in Peru, Bolivia, and Brazil. In typical Pyrrhura fashion, Black-capped Conures fly in small, close flocks, often in twisting flight through the canopy; otherwise very little is known about the biology of this species.

IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern

At Parrot Stars, we prioritize education, welfare, and responsible parrot ownership to help ensure every bird finds and thrives in a forever home. Before taking home any parrot, we provide comprehensive guidance on proper caging and setup, positive reinforcement training, household safety, nutrition, and enrichment. Parrots in captivity are still wild animals with all their natural instincts. Your overall success and experience with any species of companion parrot is greatly impacted by positive reinforcement training. A parrot’s behavior reflects both the environment it lives in and the training it receives.

All of our hand-fed babies are hatched and raised in our own breeding facility and weaned onto a diverse, high-variety diet. Our parrots are never clipped and are fully flighted.
